Advisory for Android App
We have recently received increased reports of the Pro Delivery Manager mobile app crashing when running on Android. This article provides further information about the causes of the crashes reported and steps you can take to resolve the issues.
Android OS version 8.0
A bug introduced in the Android version 8.0 operating system may cause the app to crash when it attempts to send an SMS notification. Google have reportedly fixed the bug in version 8.1 of Android, but this version may not yet be available for your device.
To check which version of Android your device is running, open the "Settings" app, and scroll down to "About phone."
At this time, we can provide two possible workarounds to mitigate this issue:
- Change the permissions granted to the PDM app. Open the "Settings" app, and tap on "Apps" under the "Device" section. Locate the "Pro Delivery Manager" app and tap on it. Next, tap on the "Permissions" menu. Ensure that the "Phone" and "SMS" permissions are both enabled. Restart the PDM app for the changes to take effect.
- Alternatively, disable sending of SMS notifications on devices running Android 8.0. This can be done via the "Settings" menu in the PDM app.
Ensure you are using the latest version of the PDM app
Version 2.6.0 of the PDM app contained a bug that caused the app to crash on certain older versions of Android OS. Please update the app to the latest version to ensure you are not affected by this issue.
Other causes of crashes
When the app has not been granted permission to access location services, it may crash on certain versions of the Android operating system if tracking of the user is enabled. We are working to resolve this issue. In the meantime you can mitigate this issue by taking one of the following steps:
- Change the permissions granted to the PDM app. Open the "Settings" app, and tap on "Apps" under the "Device" section. Locate the "Pro Delivery Manager" app and tap on it. Next, tap on the "Permissions" menu. Ensure that the "Location" permission is enabled. Restart the PDM app for the changes to take effect.
- Alternatively, disable tracking of affected users. This can be done via the "Settings" screen in the Pro Delivery Manager web application. See the "App users" setting.
